Florida A&M is battling lagging student enrollment by offering hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships.
University officials are on a 4-day whirlwind recruitment tour
stretching from Dothan, Alabama, to Miami.
FAMU President James
Ammons said almost $950,000 in scholarships were given out the
first two days.
The scholarships range from $1,000 a year to $80,000 for four
years worth of tuition, fees, room and board, books, a living
stipend and laptop computer.
Ammons wants to give students the opportunity to attend college.
Some have everything it takes, he said -- except money.
