ATLANTA (AP) _ A federal grand jury has accused a 47-year-old
Blairsville man of being the ``Crown Royal Bandit'' responsible for
28 bank robberies and a loss of $300,000 over a 10-year period.

Bruce Allen Hughes was indicted Tuesday on charges including
armed bank robbery.

Christine Verner, 42, of Athens was charged with conspiracy to
commit Hobbs Act robbery, and possession of a firearm in
furtherance of a violent crime.

The FBI and other agencies in north Georgia referred to the
``Crown Royal Bandit'' because in the first few bank holdups the
robber used purple Crown Royal liquor bags to collect the cash.
