Opening statements are set today in Miami in the trial of a man originally accused of plotting to detonate a radioactive bomb in the U-S.
Alleged al-Qaida operative Jose Padilla and two co-defendants are on trial.
Padilla, a former Chicago gang member and Muslim convert was arrested in 2002.
He was initially accused of planning to explode a "dirty bomb'' but those allegations are not part of this case.
Instead, Padilla is accused of being part of a North
