Officer fired for putting bag on suspect's head

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) --
A part-time Fort Lauderdale police office has been fired for reportedly putting a paper bag over a suspect's head.

An internal investigation found that reserve Officer John
Wezkiewicz's conduct shed a negative light on the agency. Officers
arrested Gerald Feldhaus Nov. 1, and Wezkiewicz said the suspect
kept trying to spit on officers during booking. The investigation
report says Wezkiewicz should have used a department-issued
protective hood instead of the bag to avoid any perception that
officers were trying to humiliate the suspect.

Wezkiewicz had been a reserve officer for more than 20 years
before he was fired last month. A civilian review board upheld the
probe's findings last week.
