ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a fatal drunken driving crash.
Tracy Garon pleaded guilty Wednesday to numerous charges, including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
Authorities say the 59-year-old man ran a red light in 2012 and hit two other cars, killing 81-year-old Charles A. Berry. The victim's wife and another driver were injured.
After the crash, Garon bought a can of beer at a nearby store. A police officer who arrived at the scene found him drinking from it.
His blood alcohol level was roughly 0.24 percent, which is about three times the legal limit to drive in Florida.
Court records show his prison sentence will be followed by one year of probation and community control.
