ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- A Tampa Bay area man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after authorities say he stabbed his 70-year-old grandmother in an attack he had been planning for days.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports that 23-year-old Joseph Richard Levan was arrested Monday.
Deputies say Levan attacked Eula Powless. She was being treated at a local hospital with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso and neck. Officials described her wounds as life threatening.
Levan told detectives he had been planning the attack for several days. Levan was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail, where he was being held without bail. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
