Tallahassee, FL -- March 22, 2012 --

"The cool thing about Michael is that he seems just like a typical young 20-something but as you talk to him his story is actually really inspiring," says Brittani Emmorey with the Southeastern Community Blood Center.

Michael McCants asks people to give the gift of life everyday. Almost as soon as he started working for the Southeastern Community Blood Center he donated more than just blood.

"In June I donated my kidney to a friend from college. This past January I donated bone marrow," says McCants.

And the recipient of that bone marrow was an 11 year old boy with Leukemia. McCants says he never thought twice about giving what he could to save a life.

"I felt hypocritical to be working in this field and be asking other people to donate blood, when something else is asked of me, to say no to that, felt a little wrong," says McCants.

His co-workers say these acts of kindness are a small testament to the kind of person he really is.

"We actually really enjoy having Michael on the bus, he's a very dedicated worker, very compassionate, very selfless very good with the donors. We're actually very blessed to have him here with us as an employee," says Kristy Freeman with the Southeastern Community Blood Center.

McCants urges people to find out more about donating what they can. He says, "People I'm afraid, if they're approached with the possibility of being a donor for anything like this, and out of fear or ignorance or lack of understanding, that they would immediately dismiss it without learning more about it."

He says giving the gift of life any way you can is truly the greatest gift of all.

If you would like information on how to donate blood you can call the Southeastern Community Blood Center at (850) 877-7181. Or go to www.scbcinfo.org.

What an awesome young man! 113,115 patients waiting for organ and tissues transplants. What is stopping you from becoming an Organ Donor?
