Findings on an MRI of the Knee

Updated: 03/25/2009 - recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine about the accuracy of MRI scanning of the knee in middle aged people with osteoarthritis. What it showed was people with knee pain were almost as likely as people without knee pain to have an MRI that showed a tear in the knee cartilage. The problem is that the cartilage tear may or may not be the source of the knee pain, therefore fixing the tear may or may not lead to benefit for patient.
