The inclement weather has been wreaking havoc for sports teams around the Big Bend. Chunks of ice have been a common sight on the baseball fields, and the cold wet stuff has forced teams to alter their schedules.
FAMU assistant softball coach Lori Goodart says, "They've really been doing a great job about it and accepting whatever challenges we've had every day because the weather has definitely been a factor. You know, we make due with what we have. If the field is too wet, we go out and do different types of drills. They've stayed focused the whole time. So, for that, I'm excited."
FSU junior catcher Jen Lapicki adds, "Yeah, it is difficult, but it's definitely a challenge to face. It's a way to overcome adversity, and kid of teach the team how to deal with the situation, and how to come out when the weather is not great. When it's cold, when your hands are cold, how to push through it, work through it and that's when you can see a team's character come out."
Practices have been effected the most causing these athletes to adjust to the ever changing climate.
FSU junior tennis player Clint Bowles says, "Yeah, it's been cold, then it's been hot, then really windy. You just can't let that bother you. You just got to work hard, and you know, deal with it."
FSU men's head tennis coach Dwayne Hultquist says, "I think this is the coldest weather wwe've ever haad here as far as just the number of days it's hard to get practice in. Sometimes, we do morning hits, and we haven't been able to do those because of the weather the last several weeks, so we're looking forward to the warm weather coming up here."
They're not the only ones hoping to see the weather heat up.
