"That's the next thing about soccer is that it brings people together from all over teh world and will se more of that this summer at the World Cup."
Yes, we will, but for now, students at Maclay high school were able to get a taste of that international flavor when Sky Blue Futbol Club came to visit.
The defending women's professional soccer champs feature players from six different countries, and they're in Tallahassee to prepare for their scrimmage against FSU.
Sky Blue head coach Paulina Miettinen says, "I know I wanted to come somewhere warm. I know we had connections here."
Miettinen was an assistant coach for two years at FSU and she feels it's important to spread the love of soccer to a younger generation.
Miettinen says, "The young peple, the young kids are very important part of us. The chance to influence them in a good way."
Sky Blue player Heather O'Reilly says, "We're really excited to bring women's professional soccer across the country because there are so many young girls that love this sport. It's such a popular sport around the world and in America. So, it only makes sense to have women's professional soccer in the States."
Miettinen adds, "I want to reach the day when it's everywhere in the world . It's normal for a girl to pick up a soccer ball, pick up any kind of ball and play, and be proud of it."
For one day, that certainly was the feeling for girls at Maclay.
