It would seem like any other pro day. Football players who played for the FAMU Rattlers were trying to impress the NFL scouts. They had to show their agility by by doing broad jumps and vertical leaps and then flash their strength on the bench press. Even though these pro football hopefuls were trying to showcase their skills, they couldn't help notice one NFL Hall-of-Famer looking them over.
Former FAMU quarterback Curtis Pulley says, "I was kind of star struck. You sit there and it's just Mike Singletary passing through the hallway and talk to him like a normal person. That's just something exciting, something that comes with the territory."
Former FAMU linebacker Vernon Wilder adds, "I didn't even see Mike Singletary, but I heard. When I heard his name I stumbled a bit. So, it's exciting. I am just going to come out here and do my best. Having worked hard the last seven to eight years with football. So, on this day everything counts, so I'm going to make it count."
Former FAMU defensive back Jason Beach says, "That's crazy. That's crazy in itself. You see him all the time and heard so much about him just being around football your whole life. For a legend... He's a legend, a living legend walking the hallway."
Legends have to start somewhere, and for these NFL hopefuls, the want this to be the start of that journey.
