Tallahassee, FL - FAMU tennis has been showered with accolades recently. Senior David Jackosn was named MEAC Player of the Week while teammate Takura Happy was named the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Jackson says, "He's avery strong freshman. Smart out there, he has every shot. He can't go wrong. It's more mental with him. As long as he stays mentally strong during his sets, matches, and points, he'll be fine. He's a great player."
Happy adds, "David is a senior, and he's defintely a good leader. He's got a positive attitude out there every time we're playing, so I'm always trying to learn stuff like how to be positive. How to carry myself when I'm playing on the court."
These two Rattlers are happy with their awards, but know it's all about team performance. The Orange and Green have been a perfect 3-0 in the MEAC so far.
Jackson says, "Just trying to get ready for conference play, You know, the season really doesn't mean anything. When you get ot conference, that's what it's all about, try to get into the NCAA's."
FAMU will take the one seed heading into the conference tourney, but they have avoid last season's mistakes.
Jackson says, "I think that last year, although we were ranked in the nation, we just came out a little too over confident in the conference tournament. I beliebe that this year we have had a couple of struggles here and there. A couple of 4-3 losses, I think overall makes us stronger."
They hope that strength will land them a deep run into the NCAA's
