Tallahassee, FL - It's hard to think that a 16-year old girl who's afraid of a bug will show no fear on the race track. Amber Colvin has been a champion with go-karts and has been successful in the Legends car. In 29 starts, she has 24 Top 5 finishes, and six win.
Colvin says, "Where I want to be is NASCAR. So, from there you have ARCA, Trucks, Nationwide and Cup."
Her path to realize her dream may be forced to take a detour. She's fully in control behind the wheel but a down economy and a lack of sponsorship could ruin her.
"People say you control your own destiny, but in this case right now, I'm where I need to be. I'm being looked at, but there is only so much you can do and be looked at before you're going to be picked up in a late-model ride or continuing down the road in a Legends car or NASCAR or anywhere else."
Colvin's ability is no secret after winning the 2010 NASCAR Diversity Young Racers Award. That allowed her to take in all the festivities at the Daytona 500 including meeting one of her idols.
"I turned around and it was Danica Patrick standing right there and she started talking to me actually. I was like what? I was mesmerized. It was awesome, but it's an experience I won't forget that's for sure."
Hopefully she can continue on track to her NASCAR dreams.
