Tallahassee, FL - Four FSU divers will be taking the plunge this weekend in an effort to qualify for the U.S. National Championships. To secure a spot at Nationals, they'll have to finish in the top five of their event.
They'll face some stiff competition, something they haven't seen in a few months.
FSU senior diver Landon Marzullo says, "I'm actually really exciteed. I like competition. I like to compete. I like the mindset you have to get into. So, I've been kind of of hurting for competition, so I'm really excited."
The Seminoles have been doing the best they can in preparing for the Southeast Zone Championship.
FSU senior diver Katherine Adham says, "We've been doing mock meets, and Pat's been judging us, so we've been really trying. We've been practicing the mock meets together, so we've been cheering for each other, and it's like kind of a mock setting of what's to come this weekend."
FSU diving coach Patrick Jeffrey adds, "You know we can stop it and talk about what's going on, and you know create scenarios that we think they're going to be in. It's just like a baseball coach and having a guy on first and third. You got to do it. You got to go through it, and I think it's very important. It's fun to do, too. The kids like to be scored during practice."
They hope the practice they've put in lands them a spot at the U.S. National Championships.
