Valdosta is known for breeding winners in various sports. The same holds true in the world of Martial Arts.

Performance Martial Arts in Valdosta has brought home a world champion 7 out of the last 11 years.

Three stars Ali Vialdores, Mark Webb and Jennifer Powell just returned from the Top 10 World Championship.

They didn't bring home a title but they each have plenty gracing the walls already.

They've all been under the wing of fifth degree black belt and training center owner, Mitch Church.

Mitch Church has spent 28 years practicing what he loves.

He said the accolades of his students was a team effort.

"It's not just one person, it's everybody put together. If they don't have good training partners, it's not going to help them either," said Church.

John Smith found his niche at the center four years ago.

Now at 58, he's a second degree black belt and instructor.

Smith said the art form teaches the artist.

"Respect courtesy honor integrity loyalty self control. It's not only a livelihood it's a life style," said Church.

To become a black belt you have to pass multiple tests in boards, sparring, attack and weapons.

Black belt Glenn Sibley has brought home state championships of his own.

Now his daughter, Tori is following in his footsteps and is already a black belt in elementary school.

Church says it's all about perseverance and dedication.

Smith said, "I love seeing the kids when they finally get it and they understand."

At this place, they aren't just understanding, they're winning.
