Just before you make it into downtown Havana for your antique shopping, you may see a large white building off to the left.
Or maybe you never noticed it before, but inside are the guts of products you use everyday.
It's sign is as confusing as what they do inside. Teligent EMS is an industry leader in Electronic Manufacturing Services. They deal in electronics, and they are a manufacturing and service company, but what exactly does that mean?
"The products we make are the guts of electronic boxes you might buy at home. Electronics, cell phones, t.v's., computer's," said V.P. of Business Development Mike Wallace.
Just over 150 employees work at the Havana plant. The business started as a garage shop, then moved to a small facility in Tallahassee before permanently locating 15 years ago a stones throw away from downtown Havana.
"We're a niche player, one of the small guys. We use our technology to our advantage. We do a lot of radio frequency work. We do complex products for sophisticated customers, military."
Teligent says they are able to succeed by being selective and being good at what they do. They don't try to be everything to everybody, but they try to be the best for their loyal customers. And it's shown in the bottom line.
"In 2009, our industry was down over 25%. We were up over 20%. This year we are up again--we were compounding our growth whereas most of our competitors are basically recouping from the downfall in 2009."
