Tallahassee, Florida- August 8, 2012
A new bar opens up tonight in Midtown Tallahassee.
The bar is called 'Alchemy', and the owners say that they picked Midtown because of its 'location, location, location'.
Many said the growth has been phenomenal in just the past 5 to 10 years and they're excited that new places, like Alchemy, keep opening up.
On any given day, you'll find plenty of street and foot traffic throughout Midtown in Tallahassee. A new bar wants to generate some more.
Says Marc Bauer of Hunter and Harp Hospitality: "Alchemy is one of the first and only Speakeasies of it's kind in the state of Florida right now."
The throwback bar hopes to fill a niche in Tallahassee. The developers knew Midtown was the place to go to do it.
"Midtown obviously right now is thriving and growing. Great evidence that private sector in Tallahassee is alive and well. It's been organically grown" says Bauer.
It wasn't that long ago when all Midtown had was professional businesses and What-A-Burger. But now you can be within walking distance of a bar, salon, even a cupcakery.
Says Jean Bates, owner of Lucy and Leo's Cupcakery: "The evolution has been in the forefront, the retail, the food and beverage, the out and about, the walkable traffic."
With new businesses popping up often, people in Midtown think that the area is a "sweet" way to get people to stick around.
Tallahassee resident, Adrianna Sekula recognizes the importance of Midtown: "I came here for college and ended up staying here as a young professional, and I think having an area like Midtown in Tallahassee is a great way to keep human capital and students to stay in Tallahassee and grow here and get professions here and have families."
There is much excitement about the new bar, not only for the nightlife-- but to hopefully bring out more people to the area who may not have found themselves here before.
