Tallahassee, FL -- January 13, 2012 --

The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science opened its doors to visitors for what could be the final time today

It's sat on the corner of Pensacola and Duval for nearly 14 years. And over those years, everything from pieces of the Titanic to the works of Rembrandt and Monte have passed through its doors. But now, those doors and a chapter of Tallahassee's history are coming to a close.

"When I do my last close for the register and do my close for the museum, it will be like wow, I'm not coming to work tomorrow," says Sarah Gladwin, a Brogan employee.

In December, the decision was made to close the museum due to its financial troubles. It's decision that's sadden many.

"In that movie 'A League of Their Own' Tom Hanks says, there's no crying in baseball. Well, there's been a lot of crying in the museum world," says Chucha Barber, CEO of the Brogan.

For some, Friday was the first time and final time they've experienced the Brogan. Leaving them hoping for its return.

"This seems like a great museum to have around in the community. It seems very educational. I hope one day they may bring it back," says Kerly Chirinos

And the Brogan may be back someday. A meeting was held Friday afternoon to discuss the museum's future. With the possibility it may reinvent itself and one day return.

"Maybe we become a children's museum. Maybe a digital resource for people to learn about ipads and iphones and itouches or may it's some combination there of," says Barber.

Barber says some of the exhibits that had been on loan to the museum will be returned to their owners. While some of the Brogan's own exhibit may find a new home at another museum

Wow, congrats to you for doing so well financially! The Brogan and the Auto Museum are (were) not inexpensive. Must be nice. Maybe you should have donated more to the Brogan?

Sorry to see it go, I particularly enjoyed my last visit to Tallahasee and a visit to the Brogan when the baroque masters were shown. Beside the auto museum what fine cultural entities exist in town? I know, the Governors Mall (just kidding).

with all the tax dollars that was thrown into this black hole, it just goes to show you that if the commuinty dont support it, then its a waste of tax dollars to try and keep it running. Maybe our leaders will learn from this and know that if it can't be kept open with community support, then dont waste tax dollars trying to keep it running. Same with anything else. Sorry to see it close, but I understand that tallahassee just will not support things like this.
