As the economy continues to give many in south Georgia a run for their money, shoppers say they've turned their backs on stores like Wal-Mart and Target in favor of places like Dollar General, where they say they can get the same products for less.
Within a 30 mile radius of Thomasville, over a dozen dollar stores have popped up.
Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, and Dollar General are just three popular stores people say they're going for a better deal on things from laundry detergent to underwear.
Dollar General customer Shatiza Lovejoy says the store is cheaper than Wal-Mart, whose prices she calls 'scandalous.'
One customer shopping at the Dollar General declined an on-camera interview because she says she used to work at Wal-Mart -- and couldn't openly admit their prices are double what the dollar store charges.
Employees say their stores' good prices might hook customers, but the friendly service keeps them coming back.
Manager Kevin Dew explains, "A lot of times we already know what our customers want, we have our favorite customers, even our new people, we just take our time with them, help them out. Some of the elderly, we help them carry their groceries out."
Even though not everything costs just a dollar at Dollar General -- shoppers we spoke with say they still feel they're getting more bang for their buck.
