Tallahassee, FL– June 21, 2011

Yesterday, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s President & CEO Mark O’Bryant received national recognition as a leader in the health care industry. During ceremonies in New York City, O’Bryant was named an Executive of the Year in the 9th Annual American Business Awards. Winning a Stevie Award in the category of “Health Products and Services—More than 2,500 Employees”, he was cheered by more than 600 leaders in business as he accepted the accolade.

This year, over 2,800 entries from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration in the Stevie Awards. A panel of more than 200 executives across the country participated in the judging process to determine the Finalists and Stevie Award winners.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, I am proud to learn that Mark O’Bryant has received this very high honor,” said Joseph Camps, M.D., Chairman of the Board of Directors of TMH. “We are extremely proud to have one of the nation’s elite chief executive officers here in Tallahassee. We appreciate his dedication to improving health care for all in our region, and we give him our congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.”

Dubbed, “the business world's own Oscars" by the New York Post, the Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and business people worldwide. Stevie is taken from the name Stephen, which is derived from the Greek word for "crowned." Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare has been honored with a Stevie Award once before; last year, the TMH Human Resources Department received the 2010 Stevie Award for Human Resources Team of the Year.

Also considered for this Stevie Award were Ian Read, President and CEO of Pfizer Inc., New York, NY, and E. Joseph Steier, III, President of Signature HealthCARE in Louisville, KY. Winners in other categories included the leaders of both Ford Motor Company and ESPN. Details about The American Business Awards, as well as the complete lists of honorees in all categories are available at www.stevieawards.com/aba.
