Tallahassee, FL - The city of Tallahassee officially unveiled its new smartphone app Wednesday, dubbed "DigiTally."
The new app will allow folks to report problems such as potholes, grafitti, and broken street lights. It also allows residents to snap a photo of the problem and send it directly to the correct department within the city. The idea is to hopefully lead to a quicker fix.
Beta testers say the app is good for more than just reporting problems.
"It has a park listing, so if I wanted to go hiking this weekend, I could look at all the parks and see which one has hiking, so a lot of new citizens, especially college students can use the app to find things to do in the area," said volunteer Sandi Brooks.
The app also features pictures and descriptions of animal shelter pets up for adoption. It is available for Android and iPhone users. If you want to download it, you can search "DigiTally" in your smart phone's app store.

Today, the City of Tallahassee unveiled its newest communication tool. DigiTally is a new mobile application and one of the first products to come from the City’s Innovation & Engagement Target Issue Committee, whose purpose is to find ways to creatively engage and involve citizens in their community.
“We understand that citizens want to communicate with the City about things that matter to them and impact the quality of life in their community — graffiti, broken street lights and potholes, to name a few,” said Commissioner Andrew Gillum, lead commissioner on the Innovation & Engagement Target Issue Committee. “DigiTally makes reporting an issue easy and convenient and allows citizens to monitor the issue until it is resolved.”
Using the mobile app, citizens who are out and about in the community will be able to submit a Citizen Work Request that is sent directly to staff for resolution. DigiTally uses geographical information system data to identify the precise location of the problem. For example, if you see graffiti on a bridge overpass, you simply go to the DigiTally app on your smartphone or tablet and select "New Request." The app finds your current location and includes it on your request.
The app also contains a photo feature that allows you to attach a photograph to the request, so the responding staff person will know exactly what to look for when they arrive to address the issue.
Other custom features built into this internet-based app include direct connections to information about popular City services. DigiTally provides easy access to check your yard waste pick-up day, find a park, view the photo gallery of adoptable pets, stay up-to-date on City news and events, pay your utility bill and more. You can even share why you love Tallahassee with a comment or photograph!
“We are always looking for ways to make it easy for citizens to interact with government,” said Commissioner Gil Ziffer, member of the Innovation and Engagement Target Issue Committee. “When you have something to communicate, other than having an immediate face to face meeting with the right staff person, it just doesn’t get any easier than this.”
DigiTally is free and available for download from the APP Store and the Google Play.
