Statement from Child Advocates II

We understand the importance of trust and accountability. The theft
was the result of one individual's greed in a scheme that occurred
prior to the structured, check and balance system in place today. 80%
of the theft occurred between 2010 and 2011.

Child Advocates, II, Inc. has zero tolerance for fraud, waste and abuse, and is committed to being good stewards of donor dollars. We brought our findings to TPD [the Tallahassee Police Department ] and are working with the legal community on a plan towards recovery. The Child Advocates, II, Inc. Board of Directors wants restitution.

As a Board, our number one priority is continuing to focus our efforts on the needs of the children in the 2nd Circuit of Guardian ad Litem. We are only able to meet our mission with the generous support and combined resources of a strong and unified coalition, working together to make a real difference in the lives of children in our community. We are so grateful for your continued support of our mission.

Tallahassee, FL - A Tallahassee woman is accused of pocketing more than $90,000 donated to help children.

37-year-old Jamie Pitts worked as the treasurer of a non-profit called "Child Advocates II", which helps to raise money for Guardian ad Litem.

Pitts is accused of embezzling $90,000 in the past three years.

Arrest reports say she wrote 159 checks to herself on the "Child Advocates II" account.

The board chairman discovered the scheme when the charity was billed for an overdraft in March.
