Tallahassee, FL - It's official; the "Rhythm Route" trolley hits the streets in September.

"There's a lot of vibrant things to do in this area, a lot of places to go and have a good time, so it really makes sense for the city to promote this," said Star Metro Planning Manager Samuel Scheib.

The buses and route are both musically themed. Riders can hop on for free, but the route will cost about $120,000 annually. That money comes from the Star Metro budget which is funded by taxpayers.

At a meeting over the summer, one resident suggested that the businesses on the route foot that bill. The proposal was rejected.

"It's not that expensive of a service and, of course, our business owners provide a lot of tax revenue to begin with so it seems like a win-win," said Scheib.

The route starts at the new College Town area close to Florida State's campus. 24 stops will be positioned through Gaines Street and College Avenue before ending in Midtown and turning around at Sixth Avenue.

Greg Tish is a promoter for a few of the 60 or so establishments along the route. He says the trolley could mean big bucks for the bars.

"I know that several of the establishments cater to all ages because they know that all ages are going to be coming around on the trolley," said Tish.

"The more people that go out and discover these new establishments, the owners are going to love that. Now you just don't go to this one place, you make a whole adventure night out of it."

Star Metro plans a soft opening of the service on Friday, September 6th, with a full launch later in the month. The trolley will run in the evenings on Friday and Saturday until 3 a.m.
