ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Retailers have pitched in to make sure some Florida National Guardsmen have the transportation to get home for the holidays.
The Florida Retail Federation on Wednesday announced that 10 retailers helped raise $35,000 needed to get the soldiers back to Florida.
About 300 soldiers from the Florida National Guard's 3rd Artillery Battalion are expected to return to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, on Christmas Eve.
The money raised by the retailers will help about 180 soldiers make it back to Florida to be with their families.
Earlier this week, Gov. Rick Scott challenged the retailers on his Twitter feed to help come up with the money for the soldiers' transportation.
