Man on Probation for Manslaughter Arrested Again

February 20, 2012 --

A Jefferson County man arrested for manslaughter back in 1990 is back in jail again.

Tallahassee police booked 39-year-old Jamal Shabazz Saturday.

A TPD officer found a stolen car parked in front of a home on 682 West Fifth Avenue.

The officer interviewed everyone inside. Two men said Shabazz gave them a ride.

Shabazz claims he didn't know the car was stolen.

DOC records show he had recently been released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter. He was still on probation for that crime when he was arrested for this one.

"Mr. Shabazz is on probation until 2020 for homicide manslaughter and he was, from what I understand, on probation from Jefferson County," said David Northway, Tallahassee Police PIO.

Shabazz is now charged with grand theft auto, possession of cocaine with intent to sell within 1,000 ft of a church. That's on top of violating his probation.
