On June 20, 2012 at approximately 10:30 pm, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the 4000 block of Hal’s Circle in reference to a disturbance. Upon arriving, no disturbance could be
located. Deputies searched the area for anyone who may have been involved in the reported disturbance and located the body of Alex Blas, 24, in a wooded area near the 1500 block of Doolittle Avenue.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Unit responded and performed a search of the scene, canvassed the neighborhood and conducted witness interviews. Witnesses told deputies that a green Ford Crown Victoria occupied by several people pulled onto Hal’s Circle and stopped near the 4000 block. A man later identified as Blas got into the car and was shot. Witnesses heard at least three gunshots before the green Ford was seen leaving the area.

The vehicle description was broadcast to law enforcement personnel as possibly being involved in the incident. At approximately 1:00 am, Deputy Robert Bethea located a green Ford Crown Victoria at the
Circle K store located near Crawfordville Highway and Capital Circle. As Deputy Bethea made contact with the driver, he observed what appeared to be blood on the interior and exterior of the car. Terell T.
Ford, 21, was interviewed at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and subsequently indicated his involvement in this incident. Ford was arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail.

Information was also obtained that led detectives to contact Demetris F. Hansell, 19. Hansell was interviewed at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and subsequently indicated his involvement in this
incident. Hansell was also arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail.
A third man, Alfred E. Hawkins, 17, is suspected in this incident also. Detectives have learned that Hawkins, Ford and Hansell discussed robbing Alex Blas of drugs. The three men met Blas in front of
his home to conduct a drug transaction. Shortly after Blas got into the green Ford he was shot. The men then drove to a wooded area near the 1500 block of Doolittle Avenue and left Blas’ body.

Shortly after leaving the area the men split up. Ford and Hansell were ultimately contacted and taken into custody. Hawkins is still at large. Warrants for his arrest have been obtained. Hawkins is
considered dangerous. Detectives have located at least one firearm in this investigation.
