Who is really going to stop and ponder all of the details of SYG or any other law at a time they feel like their life is threatened? No one! You will act to protect yourself no matter what the law says and then deal with it afterwards. I would rather be alive thank you very much!
It's silly to say that people believe Florida is lawless because of this one incident. How about the snipers and campus shootings across the country? Now that is something to feel scared about. Give me a break!

Dale, where what you say true - it is not - I would agree with you. But the fact of the matter is that there is not even one tiny shred of evidence to support that assumption. None. Not a shred.

I asked two difference young "white" males what their reaction would be if they were visiting a relative out of town and went walking in the neighborhood to the store, just strolling, then on the return noticed that a man in a van seemed to be following them. Then the man kept following them, even though they tired to lose them, and the man got of the car still stalking them. Both of these young males said they would be frightened that the stalker meant harm to them, might be going to mug them, would likely confront the stalker, and if they saw a gun they would attempt to overtake them for their own safety. ItIt was Trevor who was being stalked who stood his ground and Zimmerman who was doing the stalking, so it was Trevor who would have been justified in defending himself. Stand your ground was not intended to protect a person who is stalking someone when the stalked person attempts to defend self.

The U.S. Justice Department provides a breakdown of homicides by the race of both the victim and offender. Looking at the data for 2005 (the latest year available), we find that whites committed 48.0% of all murders and blacks committed 51.2% of all murders. However, whites outnumber blacks in the population. In fact, non-Hispanic whites are about 69% of the population and blacks are about 13%. These statistics alone, shows that blacks are 13% of the population, but commit 51.2% of the murders, indicate that blacks commit a seriously disproportionate number of murders." Yeah, deny my right to aggressively defend myself. I dare you.

You're right. And Martin had every right to smash his soda can as hard as he could into the head of a stranger who was chasing him across the lawn.

The comment made about "viewing FLorida as an unlawful state" really offended. We are given the right to bear arms in our constitution yet, we are told how whe and where we can carry them. We also have the GOd given right to protect our lifes, family and property, yet again, we are told how and under what circumstances this can be done. We are so far away from what our founding farthers intended this country to be, because of our "law makers", we are no better off today than the pilgrims were when they left to settle this country. What we all should feel is ashamed that our country has come to this.

Mike Vasilinda you are a liar. Martin was NOT unarmed. If you don't believe that please, please, PLEASE come here and let me smash an unopened beverage can into your skull with all the force I can muster. LIAR!

It don't matter, law or no law a person has a god given right to protect there property and there life and the lives of there loved ones and not to be bullied or threatened by any one government or citizen and live in fear and I for one am not going to live in fear of anyone BLACK, WHITE, YOUNG,OLD, MALE,FEMALE, OR OTHER. The law can't protect you no matter how many laws are on the books and it is time for men to start being men again and stop letting these lawyers and politicians protect the criminals and demonizing the law abiding citizens.Zimmerman was stupid he needed to be arrested be it a black person he shot or a white he put himself in that situation thinking he was something he ain't so he gets what he deserves.

You can bet the e-mails referred to be Sen. Smith are part of an orchestrated campaign by those that want the bill repealed. I wonder if Rev. Holmes signed his?

Zimmerman does not "claim he felt threatened" -- he claims he was getting his head pounded into concrete. This case has highlighted something that bodes ill for all Americans -- the politically minded jerks who are attracted to media careers now feel absolutely free to not only spin every story, but to outright lie as a blanket policy -- and there is no accountability. Is it a little inconvenient to certain political interests that Zimmerman's claims have NOTHING to do with SYG, and the "task force" was called on false premises created by a media fecal storm? Hey, no problem, just morph the facts -- or in other words, PRINT A LIE. The boss won't mind...

Are they taking the GF's testimony over Zimmerman's testimony? Sounds like he said/she said. And I would take his over her's. She has more of a reason to tell a falsehood than Zimmerman. He had the blood all over his head and a broken nose.
