I hate to admit that this is sort of funny. Because it's NOT, but yet it is. I apologize for the guy with the severed fingers and hand.
Some States have what's called a "cool down" law. Which means in the time it takes you to go get a weapon you should have time to 'cool down'. The example was going to the trunk of your car to get a gun. This guy had ample time to 'cool down' from being restrained and the knife taken away to getting the chainsaw.
He's a loose cannon and I believe he has the capacity to kill in the future. This isn't any one time thing.

You over looked assault and battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. Plus, he seriously injured the guy and he may end up with permanent damage to the hand or lose the fingers.

Call someone coming at you with a professional grade chainsaw a sissy. They are probably strong enough to stomp you into a mud hole and stomp it dry.

Do you take a chainsaw to them? Try to run their head through a paper shredder?

I think the police should be the only people allowed to carry chainsaws. I don't think concealed carry of a chainsaw should be allowed by anyone. The need to at least start a data base to track serial numbers of these things. If Upshaw didn't have a chainsaw, this wouldn't have happened. Some one get Bob Beckle on this.
