What middle age? I'll be 64 tomorrow, hold down a 40-45 hr per week supervisor position, like to take 5-7 mile hikes in the woods, and learned to ride a bicycle about a year ago. Now I'm learning to sail an 11-foot sailboat! I choose what I eat carefully with reasonable portions, exercise, take vitamin supplements, and get plenty of sleep. We will have to redefine aging because most Baby Boomers want to stay as young as possible for as long as possible!

You are just jealous. Do you have to find a boy scout to help you cross the street? No wonder you are anonymous.

Beverly, you keep working and living well. Tell them no assited living for you. You will tell them if it ever comes to that. If you get lazy, you start deteriorating and then die sooner than you want.

Well, dear, you do what is best for you and your family when the time comes for you to take in an elderly parent/relative. However, it is important to understand that this may not be for everyone. It is a very personal decision that I hope you never have to make.

Beverly, I am only 21 and I don't know what its like to be old but I have a 94 year old great grandaddy who still gets around pretty good. Well he has his good days as well as his bad days. But as long as he is happy we are happy. As long as you are able to do the things you want to do then do it. And if you have children then you should never have to live in a nursing home. I would never send my parents or grandparents to a nursing home unless the Doc orders different. They have done to mych for me to place them in someone elses care who don't love them the way I do and wouldn't care for them the way I will. And that is something you should bring to your kids attention.

Not much info in this article, but I like the comments. If you're going strong at 85, I suggest telling your kids to get stuffed. Where and how you live is your choice, not that of the children. I wonder, have they already decided at what age you'll have to go to a nursing home? Considering the state of the US nursing home industry, that is a terrifying thought. I'd much sooner die than be sentenced to life in prison in one of those places.

Apparently you also have multiple personality disorder.

What is 85 considered? Real Old Age? I have 40 hour a week job, work in my yard, take care of my dog - and my kids think I should be living in an assisted living center!

Well, I will be 85 in 3 weeks, work a 40 hour a week job, have a pretty flower garden at home, a sweet pit bull dog, do pretty much what I want when I want to. My kids think I am too old and ought to move into an assisted living place. What do you think?
