Not everyone who works there mistreats or abuses the residents at the hospital. Unfortunately, a few people misjudged the situation and did not act in a proper manner. It is an embarrassing situation for the rest of us who work there. When things like this occur, only the negative things regarding the hospital is mentioned. I just find it to be sad that she was ignored during the incident until it was nearly too late. Regardless of her mental status, if she had complained of being in labor, the correct thing to do is notify the nurse and start documenting each and every detail that takes place. When the LPN failed to do her part, that would have been a good time for the other staff to notify the RN on duty. Had the RN also ignored the woman as well, someone could have called an emergency code. The emergency team with EMTs, doctors, nurses would have arrived to take this resident to the hospital for a full examination. I agree with the disciplinary actions that were handed out. I hope other employees learn from the mistakes that were made in this event to prevent it from occurring again in the future.

How is it that the institution has had staffing problems for years, but the HR director got a huge pay raise this year? Seems odd since there's been no cost off living increase for quite Sommer timer.

You cannot comment on the conditions of Florida State Hospital until you have actually worked there or even drove on campus for that matter. Most people wouldn't make it a week working under the stress there. There are sometimes at least 50 mental crime committed residents on a Ward with 6 to 7 staff. And the place where this pregnant Resident was housed is always understaffed and has VERY POOR MANAGEMENT. Also, firing Direct Care Staff when this was clearly a Medical Issue is throwing the blame off on someone else. Someone really needs to look Into this and find the REAL source of the problem.

The equal employment act requires the facility to hire blacks. They by law had to hire them. This is the result. Stop telling employers who they have to hire and allow their judgement not the government's judgement to make the call. Government does not manage anything efficiently.

Was the women white? Were the employees black?

If you have never worked in a mental facility, you don't have a leg to stand on. There are days you don't have enough of yourself or time to give every resident the time they feel they are entitled to. The employees do their best with what they have. These people have not had a raise in over 6 years. Due to our current government, they also are in need of more and more supplies. Towels, bath cloths, sheets, pillow cases, etc. are outsourced to a company in Pensacola. When staff runs out of towels, for example, they wait for the next delivery. Oh well.

The legislature has significantly reduced the number o staff and the amount of salary dollars available for staff in Florida mental health hospitals. When you read articles about what is being cut, do you notice when it says state hospitals over and over? The positions that have been advertised recently are so paying so little that very qualified staff will not work for that. I don't mean to diss the people that do work there because there are some good and qualified staff, but not enough of the the one with college degrees in this field and more who have less training due to low budgets. These people have a lot of patients to attend to at the same time who maybe be making similar demands. This woman may have been a screamer already, as some, but not all, patients do rant and yell due to their psychosis. Perhaps the staff did not realize she was in labor. The investigation will find out what happened. Will the news agencies care enough to follow up and report the findings?

IM WITH U TRUTH. ADMIN WILL FIND SOMEONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES TO BLAME. HERE GO THE WCTV BLOG KNOW IT ALLS. THESE PPL HERE HAVE NEVER WORKED THERE AND MOST SEEM TO FORGET THAT SOME OF THE RESIDENTS THERE HAVE KILLED, RAPED AND ROBBED. THEN PRETEND TO BE MENTAL TO GET TIME SERVED THEN RELEASED BACK AROUND UR KIDS. IM AM SO SURE THAT THE UTRS AND THE HSWS DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO DO. CRITISIZE THE ADMIN STAFF NOT THE LITTLE PEOPLE. AND THE DOCTOR CUD ONLY DO WHAT CUD BE DONE. IF FSH USE THE MEDICAL FACILITIES INSTEAD OF SENDING RESIDENTS TO TMH AND CRMC THEN MAYBE SOMETHING BETTER CAN COME OUT. DNT STUMP ON STAFF. STUMP ON RULE MAKERS.

not really when you think he cut the bugets and had a lot let go. you are right about the staff. they just didn't care. if she LOOKED BIG W/child they really just didn't care. I hope they get the fullest punshiment possible. my god have mercy on them.

This breaks my heart. That poor child has to suffer and the mother as well knowing the pain that her child is going through. This incident should not have occured and does need to be formally addressed. This hospital is one of the worst. My friend's mother works there and my mom volunteered there. Neither of them would reccommend the place or give a good review. They both hate the place and although they do their best to help the patients, it really is understaffed and there are only a select few people who actually care about the work they do - meaning that many of the staff members mistreat/neglect the attendents. They both have told me about this and my mom even took the time to report a few cases to DCF that were not relevant to this one. I hope this mom and her baby get the proper care that they deserve.

Now day's people don't care and don't want to work. They do the bare minimum as possible in These types of jobs and corrections. Employers hire winners I tell you what.
