ATLANTA - June 9, 2012

A 20-year-old soldier from Georgia has died in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense on Saturday announced the death of Pfc. Brandon D. Goodine of Luthersville. He died Thursday in Maiwand, in southern Afghanistan, from injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Goodine was part of Operation Enduring Freedom and was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
