I have lived in Wakulla all my life. When my grandma was little there wuld be a panther that crossed behind her house every year. It still does or their offspring. There are bears in the panhadle. The reason these Creatures and others are moving around so much more is that they are trying to find water sources and food. Last I checked My pond is dry, the sinkholes by my house are almost gone, the creek is gone. I have had two bears break into my garbage. Really I dont see it as a big deal. They all will run away as soon as they smell you Unless you just walked into a mothers den of any animal they will attack.

There have been at least 4 bears killed by vehicles in the area between the Wakulla/Leon county line and Bloxham Cutoff on Hwy 319 in the last year or so. I didn't get to see it, but there was one reportedly at the corner of my property close to the county line. They are everywhere it seems, lol. They will probably bring back bear hunting and do it like they do the alligator hunts.

Of the bears I've seen while out and about in the woods, I spend a lot of time doing that, were in a big hurry to be somewhere else once they realized I was there. For all their speed and strength they don't like to be around people who are on foot.
