Rollergirls Face Must Win Game

Tallahassee, FL - As the season approached, they knew they'd do well. They just never saw this coming.

"We didn't come into this season thinking we were going to do as well as we have," Hope Stewart said.

The Tallahassee Rollergirls, known as Capital Punishment, have skated past their expectations. They own a 6-1 record.

"Last season was a hard year," said Stewart, a jammer for the Rollergirls and who goes by the nickname "The Great Wall of Gina." "We had ups and downs just like every derby team does. You know people that leave, people that come in."

A win this weekend could push the Rollergirls into the Top-10, which would put them in place for the playoffs.

"We could be going to regionals this year which is something I've been looking forward to since I started," said Brandi Tucker, a blocker for the Rollergirls and who goes by the nickname "Pixie Ponder." "It'll be very exciting. It's a big milestone."

Capital Punishment has never been to a regional tournament before. But a few wins this month would put them on pace to make history.

"Going through everything this league have gone through and still being able to get there, it would mean the world to us," Rollergirls Head Coach Liovani Nazario said. "We're focusing on strategies and plays that are gonna get us to win that game hopefully get us a spot on the top-10."
