Valdosta, GA - Josh Williams didn't believe it when his father told him. The Thomasville native would not only be meeting an NFL player, but he would get to hang out with Ricardo Lockette for the entire day.
"I've never met an NFL player before," he said. "I'm pretty excited to meet someone like him. See how good of a person he is."
Williams's father won a radio contest that brought the two together. Lockette, a Georgia native who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, visited Boys and Girls Clubs in Valdosta on Wednesday afternoon taking Williams along with him.
"For him to see, like, okay, he's a regular guy, or he's from right down the street. Or if he can do it, I know I can do it," Lockette said.
Lockette hoped he could teach some of the kids he spoke to some of the lessons he learned on the football field.
"Never give up. Never give up because there's a lot of things that happen in people's lives and they revert to the wrong things," he said.
But his day with Williams wasn't all about inspiration.
"He's kind of like me," Lockette said. "He's like, oh, who's this guy? But, hopefully, by the end of the day we become best friends."
Lockette's message was about achieving your dreams. On this day, Williams had his dream come true.
