Local Man to Run in NYC Marathon in Honor of Mother's Cancer Battle 7-27 6pm

Tallahassee, Florida- July 27, 2012

Mickey Moore usually trains for races during the winter. Lately, he's been running in the summer heat. But with the use of a product called Cool Point, Moore gets an extra kick.

"It's a gel pack that you freeze and that you wear on your hands while you run," said Moore, who lives in Tallahassee. "And the main thing is you keep your cool. It lasts for about 45-60 minutes."

Moore believes its helped his time. This is especially for someone who started running competitively four years ago.

"The only thing I could do consistently on my own, wherever I was, was running," he said.

Moore has been in the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta and the Boston Marathon. In November, he'll run his first New York City Marathon. Just like with all of his races, he's doing it for a cause. This time it's in support of his mother's fight against cancer.

"It just really took a toll on her. I just want to use that as strength," he said. "I want to run a 2:58, a 2:59:59 if that be the case. Anything under three hours."

That's where Moore expects the cooling device to step in.

"By the time I get up there in November it's going to be, I think the average is 57. So I'm good with that," he said. "I'll be like 'hey, this is great. I've been training in 80 degree weather, now I'm running a race in 57.' But it is something new and it's helping me."
