FSU Track Sends 21 to Nationals

Tallahassee, FL -- May 29, 2012 --

Out of 35 athletes that competed in the east region of the NCAA track and field championships, Florida State qualified 21 for nationals.

"We wanted to make sure that the people with the best chances to score at nationals got through and we got really all those that need to be there, men and women, to the national meet," says head track and field coach Bob Braman. "For the most part we had a few surprises. A really, really good weekend for us, the kind of weekend that if we had at ever region we'd have a couple more titles right now."

FSU hopes to add one more trophy to it's case next weekend. In the most recent poll the Florida State program is ranked fourth.

Braman adds, "Being the favorite is not the place to be. It's a four day meet and it's a heavy burden to carry. We'll be fine and we feel we always have a chance, even when people don't think we've had a chance. Seven of the eight years that we've been here we've either won the thing, been in second or been awfully close."

Drake University is the site of the meet, the same track where Florida State won it's last national championship.

"It's a place we've done well at, we have two titles that we've won there," adds Braman. "We've got Gonzalo Borroilhet, who is the old man of track and field, the last guy from the 2008 championship who was there. It's been good to us."

The meet begins June 6th with the champion declared June 9th.
