Imagine selling your kids for just two days to get some piece and quiet. That's what one Illinois frazzled mother tried doing, and now she's in a web of trouble.
The woman is offering to sell her four and eight year old daughters for two days so she can have some peace. She calls the kids crazy and unruly and says the bidder can have a white trash dream while she sleeps peacefully in a roach motel.
The woman claims she's bipolar with major depression and a borderline personality disorder. She says the bidder can also have her meds which aren't working for her.
One area resident said, "I'd be very concerned about the children because she's not gonna know who's gonna take them, what they could do to them."
Another said, "She wants peace and quiet and her kids are unruly. Well, that's a parent’s job to take care of their kids and teach them right from wrong.
Police say "We have to take it seriously when it comes to children." Officers are looking into it, and say they believe the woman is not from Benton- but rather from northern Illinois, possibly the Chicago area.
They don't know if there is some other Benton connection- but many are worried about the children.
"With the things going on in the world today, what was the possibility of a pedophile picking up on this bit."
Investigators still don't know who the woman is. Illinois state police say their internet crimes unit is investigating.
At this point, authorities don't believe posting the auction itself was a crime.
