POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ A convicted robber involved in the fatal shooting of a 76-year-old Broward County Sheriff's deputy has been caught.
Sheriff Al Lamberti says 40-year-old Michael Mazza was arrested at a Hollywood pawn shop shortly after noon, about four hours after Deputy Paul Rein was killed in Pompano Beach. Mazza was found
with Rein's weapon.
Officials say Mazza may have had accomplices who ambushed Rein
as they drove to the courthouse for his trial on a separate robbery. Rein was alone with Mazza in a medical transportation van, which was partitioned. Mazza was handcuffed and wearing a suit and tie for court.
Rein died at the hospital. His wife had talked to him 10 minutes before the shooting.
