Republicans to Hold Spanish Debate

MIAMI (AP) _ Three leading GOP presidential candidates have signed up to participate in a Spanish-language debate.

Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney will take part in the December ninth Univision forum at the University of Miami. They join John McCain, Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter.

The debate had been canceled two months ago because only McCain
and Hunter had signed up.

More than two million viewers saw seven Democratic candidates
participate in the first presidential debate to be broadcast in Spanish.

The questions are asked in Spanish. The candidates hear English
translations of the questions through earphones. The responses are
then translated into Spanish for viewers.

Analysts have said GOP candidates who refused the Univision invitation would risk losing votes in key swing states such as Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado, which have fast-growing Hispanic populations.
