President Bush and Vice President Cheney Observe Veteran's Day

WASHINGTON (AP) _ America honors its veterans today.

Vice President Cheney will stand in for President Bush today at
the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National
Cemetery outside Washington. The president is at his ranch in
Texas, where he held talks this weekend with German Chancellor
Angela Merkel.

The president has issued a Veterans Day proclamation. In it, he
says the nation owes a huge debt to the men and women through
history who have served in the military. He says they have helped
save the world from tyranny and terror by holding fast against
determined and ruthless enemies. Bush says the ``determination,
courage and sacrifice'' of Americans in uniform have made for ``a
more secure and peaceful world.''
