Sheriff Blames Youth for Increased Crime

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Certain crimes in Jacksonville are up and the youth are to blame. That's according to Sheriff John Rutherford.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released crime statistics this month for the first half of 2007. Jacksonville saw a 23 percent increase in reported robberies and a 7 percent increase in aggravated asasults.

When asked about the statistics, Rutherford noted that Jacksonville has among the largest 18- to 34-year-old population in the state. He said that age group is the criminal demographic.
