ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) _ The senior pastor at Alpharetta First Baptist Church has been charged with simple assault and obstruction of a 911 call after a fight with his wife.
Deacon Jonathan Wilson says Jeff Witcher is on administrative leave with pay until further notice. Witchier has been the leader of the 1,500-member church in metro Atlanta since 2003.
Wilson says the pastor is staying with friends.
Police went to the Witcher home about 1 a.m. Monday because a 911 call was disconnected. A police report says Shelley Witchier said she was asleep when her husband came into the bedroom and began yelling at her.
The report says when police arrived, the 39-year-old Witcher was
standing in the garage next to a vehicle with his wife inside.
