PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) _ A Bay County Sheriff's deputy is being
investigated for shooting a fleeing suspect in Panama City.
A sheriff's office spokeswoman says Sergeant Tony Walker fired shots at a car that hit him. The deputy was thrown onto the hood of the car, shattering the windshield.
The suspect, Eric Wilkes, was hit by at least one bullet. He was treated at a hospital and later arrested. He's charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of powder cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting. Meanwhile, Walker is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the review. He was not seriously injured.
