DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) _ More than 100,000 fish are dead following
a spectacular jellyfish attack at a Northern Ireland salmon farm.
The farm's owners say billions of jellyfish were in a dense pack
that spanned 10 square miles when they overwhelmed the fish last
The attack took place while the salmon were in a pair of net
pens a mile off the coast north of Belfast.
Workers tried to save the fish, but the salmon were all dead or
dying by the time their boats made it through the jellyfish and
reached the pens.
The attack will cost the salmon company more than 2 million
dollars. The company says it will likely have to shut down unless
it receives emergency aid from the British government.
