Afghan Suicide Attack Kills Seven

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) _ Seven people are dead in Afghanistan,
victims of a suicide bomber who targeted Italian soldiers building
a bridge.

The dead include one of the soldiers and six Afghans, including
three children who had gathered to watch the construction. Three
Italian soldiers are among the nine other people who were wounded.

A spokesman for Afghanistan's Interior Ministry says the bridge
was being built five miles outside of Kabul.

Witnesses say some of the Italian soldiers fired their weapons
after the blast, and an Afghan doctor tells The Associated Press
that one of the victims was hit by gunfire.

But police deny there was any shooting. One commander says what
people thought were bullets were ball bearings packed in the bomb.
