Oil Platform Catches Fire In North Sea

LONDON (AP) _ Rescue helicopters from Britain and Norway are
struggling against strong winds in an effort to rescue dozens of
workers from an oil platform that's on fire in the North Sea.

The platform is about 120 miles northwest of Britain's Shetland
Islands.

Forty-four of the 159 workers on the rig were quickly removed
and the helicopters have been taking others to three nearby
platforms.

There are no reported injuries.

A spokesman for Britain's Royal Air Force says the platform is
``about as remote as it gets.'' He says it's just five miles inside
the outer limits of Britain's search and rescue region in the North
Sea.

British authorities say it's not known yet what started the
fire.
