HOUSTON (AP) _ Is he a hero or a loose cannon? Both terms have been used to describe Joe Horn of Pasadena, Texas, who called 911 before fatally shooting two men who were breaking into a neighbor's home earlier this month.
On the tape, the 911 operator urges Horn not to go outside with
a gun, saying the property being stolen wasn't worth someone's
life. Horn says what they're doing is ``not right,'' and says he's
going after them.
The next sounds are chilling. Horn apparently encounters the men
outside and calls out, ``You're dead.'' Then, the blast of his
12-gauge shotgun is heard.
Despite the case playing out on tape, prosecuting Horn could
prove difficult in Texas. Many residents believe in self-defense
and protecting property. Pasadena police are still investigating
and it's expected a grand jury will be convened.
