Florida Planning Amendment

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ A new law that lets voters revoke their
signatures on petitions for citizen initiatives survived an initial
court challenge today, but opponents say they will appeal.

The law is one of several measures enacted in recent years to
make passing initiatives more difficult. It is aimed largely at the
Florida Hometown Democracy proposal, which would require voter
approval for comprehensive plan changes. They can determine where
new roads, homes, businesses and other development can take place.

Development and other business interests pushed for the law's
passage. They contend Hometown Democracy will stop growth and ruin the state's economy.
