DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ A 30-year-old Volusia County firefighter died when a pine tree fell on him during a training exercise.
Authorities say John Curry was using power and chain saws yesterday when the tree fell and struck him in the head.
It was not clear if Curry or another firefighter cut down the tree at the Volusia County Fire Training Center. Firefighters attempted to save Curry but he died at the scene.
Curry joined Volusia County Fire Services in January and was stationed in DeLeon Springs.
The sheriff's office was investigating, although no foul play is suspected. Volusia County Fire Services also is reviewing its training procedures.
