(CBS)_A Wisconsin doctor was seeing double last week. He delivered four sets of twins in less than 24 hours.
Doctor Ken Merkitch has been an obstetrician-gynecologist at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse for 19 years. His twins-filled shift began when he was called in to work the day after Thanksgiving (11/23).
The first delivery came at 11:23AM with the Davis twins. Nine hours later, the McHugh twins were welcomed into the world. The third set came just after 1:00AM on Saturday (11/24) when the Mach twins were born. The last of the twins came around 3:30AM with the Smith babies.
Merkitch says everything went well in each of the deliveries, but he can't get over what happened. He said the odds have to be astronomical.
Nurses say there is an added twist to the strange day. The Mach twins were born the exact same height and weight.
